Producing high-quality raw silk
Gunze was established in 1896 to develop the sericulture industry, which was a local industry in Ikaruga County (now Ayabe City, Kyoto Prefecture).
The founding spirit of the company was based on respect for people, production of quality products, and coexistence and co-prosperity. Over time, the contribution of these to society can be likened to woven cloth: the warp, which remains steady with the times, and the weft, which is how we meet the changing needs of the times.
Developing into a functional solutions business
The textile business, which started with silk yarn, has today turned into apparel products, and plastic casting and processing technology has evolved into a functional solutions business, starting with in-house production of plastic packaging materials for apparel.
Co-creating new value
In 1982, the Gunze engineering plastics business was born, and more than 90% of the many products we have launched have become customized products, proof of our desire to be close to our customers in the field of engineering plastics (high-performance plastics).
