PGA Suture

Polyglycolic acid (PGA) based braided suture material

Features

Gunze is the first company in Japan to produce PGA sutures.
This bioabsorbable (braided) suture material consists of PGA. It loses half of its strength after 2 weeks via hydrolysis and is absorbed in approximately 15 weeks. PGA dissolves into CO₂ and H₂O, which are excreted from the body naturally. The absorbability of the material alleviates the burden on patients since suture removal is not required.
Gunze’s PGA suture material is braided and flexible. It is an unsterilized material, that can be used to produce surgical sutures. It is available in size USP5~USP10-0 in beige (undyed) or violet.
