Gunze transfers part of its medical division to its wholly owned consolidated subsidiary Gunze medical Limited

Osaka-Gunze Limited (Headquarters: Osaka, Japan, President: Toshiyasu Saguchi)[TOKYO: 3002] has decided to transfer part of its Medical Division and QOL Laboratory to its wholly owned consolidated subsidiary Gunze medical Limited (Headquarters: Osaka; President: Shojiro Matsuda) effective April 1, 2023.
GUNZE Group has positioned the medical business as a growth driver in its medium-term management plan "Vision 2030," which began in fiscal 2022. Gunze Medical Japan and Medical U&A, which had been operating as sales subsidiaries, were merged and began operating as Gunze Medical in October 2022.
Outline of the demerger
In this reorganization by absorption-type demerger, the sales and R&D sections of the Medical Division including the QOL Laboratory, will be absorbed into Gunze Medical.
Through this reorganization, Gunze Medical will become a specialized medical device company that can provide a full range of services from R&D to sales.
Purpose of the demerger
The main purposes of the demerger are as follows.
(1) Strengthening compliance as a specialized medical device company.
(2) Accelerate the speed of new product development that reflects the needs of the clinical site.
(3) Achieve flexible organizational response and organizational efficiency to the rapidly changing market environment in the medical device industry.
By making Gunze Medical a specialized medical device company that handles everything from R&D to sales, the company will not only develop medical devices based on our core technology of bioabsorbable and biocompatible materials, but also flexibly respond to market changes, accelerate development speed in response to needs, and strengthen selection and concentration through portfolio strategies by medical field and explore the potential of mergers and acquisitions.
The company will steadily advance the growth strategy of medical business in its medium-term management plan "Vision 2030” and contribute to the development of medical care and the creation of new value and comfort.
